What is Hypnobirthing?

It sounds woo-woo, but it's grounded in basic biology.

The term "Hypnobirthing" essentially describes a form of antenatal education that is evidence-based and logical. It teaches you how your body works on a muscular and hormonal level.

The Fear-Tension-Pain Cycle

Dr. Grantly Dick-Read, a British obstetrician, proposed that fear causes the arteries leading to the uterus to constrict and become tense. This tension causes pain. In the absence of fear, the muscles of the uterus relax and yield, making birth comfortable.

Tools you will learn

  • Breathing: To keep your nervous system in "rest and digest" mode.
  • Visualisation: To create positive mental images of birth.
  • Deep Relaxation: To conserve energy and allow your muscles to work efficiently.
  • Affirmations: To build subconscious confidence.

Does it guarantee a pain-free birth?

Not necessarily. But it does change your perception of the sensations. Many women describe it as intense pressure rather than pain. Most importantly, it gives you the tools to stay calm and in control, no matter what path your birth takes.
