"Master the surge breath. Rise with the wave, breathe with the power."

This session focuses specifically on Up Breathing — the sustained surge breath that is the primary tool of the first stage of labour. It is designed to simulate the actual length and intensity of a surge, guiding you to maintain steady, rhythmic breathing for a full 60 seconds at a time while staying physically relaxed throughout. By practising this regularly during pregnancy, you build both the lung capacity and the mental resilience to breathe through even the most powerful surges without losing your rhythm — a skill that makes an enormous practical difference when labour is well established.

When to listen

  • To practice maintaining focus for 60 seconds.
  • When you want to simulate labour management.
  • To improve your lung capacity.
  • As a drill for the active phase of birth.

What you'll practice

  • Inhaling deeply to a count of 4.
  • Exhaling slowly to a count of 8.
  • Staying relaxed while breathing deeply.
  • Recovering quickly after the 'surge' ends.
This session is designed to support relaxation and preparation. It is not medical care and does not replace guidance from healthcare professionals.
